Here are three photographs of the greenhouses that
were taken on the 12th of February 2001. Most of the plants are showing a
little new green growth now and tiny little buds that herald new growth
are forming. Every day I spray all the older, more woody plants with tepid
water to soften the hard wood, this allows the pink buds to show through
the bark. When there are lots of new buds showing I will repot the plants
in new compost into pots of the same size.
I'd like to emphasize what I said about watering in
January, during the colder months of the year we need to be very careful
with the watering of all plants. We are aiming to keep them as dry as
possible without them getting dust dry. We must try not to get the foliage
wet while watering, as this can lead to mildew forming on the leaves in
the closed conditions of a greenhouse. The best way of doing this is to
stand the pots in a shallow dish of water for approximately ten minutes.
